Building a Premium Site with CMS
| Premium web sites are often built as CMS, or content management systems. The basic concept involves working with you and also with a company that provides the CMS resources. We work with you to choose a template for the site. Your job is primarily to select the modules to add to the basic site and then provide the content and images. The modules could involve a member directory, a blog, a shopping cart, social network, or more. You choose and purchase only the modules you need. The various web pages for the site are often only virtual pages. The information is stored in a database as objects and the pages are assembled on the fly from the objects and can be modified easily by a non-technical person. One of the first CMS sites we did is at http://www.calligraphicarts.org. This site uses an open source CMS development tool called Joomla. Open-source means the source code for the development tool is free and can be modified as desired. Joomla is free. There are literally hundreds of add-on Joomla modules out there, and some are free. Although it is somewhat easy for a non-technical person to keep a Joomla site up, it does help for them to have some level of technical skill. There is a learning curve involved. CMS sites are very popular with churches and other non-profit groups. The church secretary can keep the main part of the site up and various ministry leaders can keep their part of the site up. For example, here is a CMS site http://www.denverseminary.edu/ for a school developed using http://www.ekklesia360.com/. The ekklesia360.com, in turn, is a part of Monk Development at http://www.monkdevelopment.com/ that can provide a wide variety of CMS support. We can work as a developer with you using either of these. Another CMS developer can supply CMS support for us is SkyCMS at http:www.discoversky.com for church and non-profit CMS sites. An example of their CMS sites see http://www.ctwc.com/. SkyCMS, in turn, is a part of a larger CMS development support known as ElementFunsion.com at http://www.elementfusion.com/. Letting us help you develop a CMS site is a quick way to develop a very professional web site and also provide you with a site you can easily modify and change text and graphics needing only a minimum of technical experience. The CMS sites are modular. Example modules might be eCommerce, blog, social networking, membership management, and polling. You purchase just the modules you need for your web site.
