Disclaimer. These maps reflect the same information released by the Portland Police Bureau. We did not work with the Portland Police Bureau to produce these maps and charts. The maps are not intended to indicate "bad" or "good" neighborhoods, or to promote stereotypes, but simply report where specific ranges of crime activity are located in the context of time and neighborhoods in the city of Portland. In looking at this data, viewers need to understand that there are some factors which may contribute to an increase or decrease of reported crime activity in a given year. For these reasons, the figures presented in this report and the supporting charts, graphs, and maps should be viewed as indicators of trends rather than explicit facts. We do not claim responsibility for inaccuracies in the data, nor are we responsible for changes made such as have just been described. We do our best to report accurately data distributed to the public by the Portland Police Bureau.
If you believe that the ranges represented on these maps do not accurately represent crime activity in your neighborhood, we recommend that you bring the matter up with the proper neighborhood association as well as sending us a comment.
These crime maps tell you where a range of incidents took place within a geographic region. They are not intended to convey to viewers a sense of safe or non-safe neighborhoods. Areas with higher reported incidents may pose a greater risk to residents and visitors in some areas, however, this rate may fluctuate and can only be assessed over time. .
Many factors can influence the crime rate of a neighborhood. When looking at the RATE/1000 Population, for example, the large work force in the Lloyd, Downtown, Old Town/Chinatown, Pearl, and Northwest Industrial neighborhoods can distort the crime rate for those areas. If viewers know of other factors which may contribute to skew the data reported for any crime activity represented in charts or graphs appearing in this website, please write to us or call. Thank you.
