The following
charts were made from data provided by the Portland Police Bureau. We
make no claim for its accuracy or applicability. Portland crime rates
are reported by Neighborhood rather than census tract. The charts are
primarily tutorial in nature, as we have had no funding to continue. The
maps are dated now, but they remain excellent tutorial material. We've
done a few updates, and these are available from the main crime menu page
at http://www.netadventures.biz/crmemenu.htm.
More updates
are coming soon and should be posted here at least by Christmas (2005).
This is a popular page, so we'll try to update.

have yet to be verified by Portland Police and the Federal Government
to
natinal reporting standards.)

Notes:
Although
crime data for 2005 is avaiable (http://www.portlandonline.com/police/index.cfm?c=29831),
this is not in published form yet. (This means data is not yet blessed
by the local police and the Federal Government.) For comparison with
1994, we wanted "apples" to "apples" comparison,
so we stated with the published data of 2002, the latest report available.
Some neighborhood
boundaries changed, new neighborhoods emerged, and some neighborhorhoods
(such as Buckman) split. This caues difficulties in comparing 1994 to
2002. A split neighborhood in 2002 was treated together as one for comparison
purposes.
Some neighborhoods
have changed districts since 1994. The charts for the districts are
based on the 2002 districts, so the values for 1994 districts used in
comparisons here may be different from the values for a district charted
before.
The Centennial
neighborhood was added in the 2002 totals for East Portland district.
It was not a part of the 1994 neighborhood map and this affected the
totals for the change in the East Portland District.
Rate rates
for 1000 population are higher in the downtown, Lloyd Center, Old Town/Chinatown,
Northwest Industrial,, and even the Hollywood areas because of their
low residential popularion and high work force.
