There is a cliché with web designers:
Links and content are the king and queen of a successful web site.
Both links and your
content flow from your keyword phrases. Those keyword phrases are the
mother of your web site and social networking. The links and content
are birthed from these.
The general strategy is to use the links to draw people to your web site
and blog from other people’s web sites and the social networks.
Then you motivate them to take action. Remember that everything is driven
by the needs of the people you are trying to reach.
This means your content needs to be dynamic, intense, and involving.
Michael Shermer once asked Edward R. Tufte to summarize the goal of his
work. His reply: Simple design, intense content. The New York Times refers
to Tufte as the “da Vinci of data” because of his ability
to see through complex data to objective conclusions. His basic rule
applies to web page design as well. Keep your site simple but loaded
with dynamic and intense content that is constantly changing and watch
your ranking soar. Use newsletters, blogs, article libraries, and FAQ
pages for dynamic content.
Assume your reader is a very busy person (and who isn’t?) and stumbles
into your website. Do you know that page they will most likely arrive
on? Often it is blog page. Why? Because it is a dynamic page, it has
specific content targeted to a single issue, and has the reader’s
need in mind. Often it is targeted to a recent issue elevated by other
sites and the news media.
The reader will surf this page for a few seconds. – maybe eight.
It you haven’t got their attention and answered their question
in those eight seconds the readers has gone somewhere else. Here is an
example blog entry that shows some information on Internet usage:

Here is another one from the same company:

You get the idea. The blog entries are short with intense information.
