Four Freedoms of the Internet
Michael Powell, former head of the FCC, outlined what he considered the four freedoms of the Internet customer. This is now known as the Powell Doctrine, and is already affecting legal decisions about the freedom of the VoIP, or Voice-Over-IPs. Here are those freedoms:
- Customers have the freedom to access legal content
- Customers have the freedom to use the legal applications of their choice
- Customers have the freedom to attach personal devices
- Customers have the freedom to obtain meaningful service plan information
In other words, it is the responsibility of the ISPs to provide innovation for better service, not to innovate for ways to destroy their competition.
