We recently launched a website for a political PAC for a city as part of a larger agenda to add an amendment to the city’s constitution. We used the Econoweb model, which gave us a very dynamic website in a week that cost very little. The content and news on the website could quickly follow the evolving events. The opposition could not. Newspaper reporters were watching, and soon there was plenty of media coverage (three newspapers). To quote one reporter, our own website was better than the website the city had. The work, however, was really a community effort – what Jennifer Aaker and Andy Smith in their book call “the dragonfly effect”. The website a Tualatin initiative for a city amendment to protect local parks (Measure 34-186). The vote is coming up March 8, 2011. The Econoweb website is at http://www.protecttualatinparks.org. The blog of this website (netadventures.biz) has already been converted to a similar type of blog. During the next few weeks we plan to convert the static part of this website to the Econoweb format. During this conversion you may see the static part at least partially down at times. The blog will continue to be up and updated at times, and can be reached during this change directly at http://www.netadventures.biz/wordpress/. This bypasses the static component.

During the next few weeks, you may see this site working strange at times. We are doing a major revision of the site and hope to have everything working in a week or so. Meanwhile, if you find the site misbehaving, be assured it’s only temporary while we test the new site and you should see the old site back in a few minutes until the new one is ready.

UPDATE: We are now on our new theme. We still have work to do – lots of it – but we are on the new theme.

Watch for major changes here.
First, we are adding a backup plug-in to protect things as we change the blog. We are using dbc-backup, a free backup plug-in.

Second, we are moving the blog and web site to a new server on the same host. This will provide us later version of the MySQL, needed for the new versions of WordPress.

Third, we will be upgrading WordPress to the new 3.0 version.

Fourth, we will be doing a upgrade of the theme to a much, much better theme.

All the postings and tags should remain, and you will see us continue to add postings as we go through this update cycle. We estimate it will take about two weeks. We expect the blog to continue to work during this time but – if something does fail – we will have the backups and should be back up quickly.

At the present time, we have moved to the new server and a backup (second step) has been completed. Once this is verified, we will upgrade to WordPress 3.0. Then we will upgrade the theme.

We’ve been VERY busy with web site work recently and haven’t had time to to the major redesign on this site that is needed. We also need to update the SEO book we have been selling. Our priority is our client sites. Our primary market is search engine optimization and content development. We also continue to develop small web sites that, with the optimization, give customers a lot of bang for a minimum of investement.

Recently we updated the blog software – going from WordPress version 1.5 or so to 2.7, then changed the template so it works harder. We’ve also started adding tags now.

We will be updating this blog much more frequently now, so we suggest you subscribe by RSS or bookmark the blog. We write for 3 blogs, so that keeps us busy as well.
