You make an excellent point here. To a large extent, developers miss out on designing their sites to support the physically challenged. In addition to font selection and size, there is also the issue of color. Red and green are a contrast for most users, but not to someone who is color-blind. The Facebook color scheme is blue & white, as Zuckerberg is red-green color-blind.

For the low visioned you have missed the boat. One size or style does not fit all. Ultimately legibility depends on the viewer’s eyesight and the designer must allow the viewer’s accessibility adjustments to do their job. We need two things: (1) word wrap to keep the copy on the screen when we enlarge, and (2) our choice of font as set in our software for incoming text so if we need higher contrast, we can have it.
These two adjustments are frequently disabled by thoughtless formattiong. #1 in this blog is an example. The lines are about twice the width of my screen and wequire me to go all the way back and forth for each line.
There are more than two types of fonts. Those with low contrast sensitivity need a bold font with wide strokes.

Don’tbe discouraged, you have lots of company. The White House sends emails in an elegant gray font and disables my settings for a bold font. GovDelivery.com does it too with emails from the VA. On the other hand the National Geographic sends out busy emails loaded with graphice and they let my adjustments work perfectly. I wish they would tell GovDelivery ow they do it.

Not so much. There was a similar google bomb related to John Kerry called “waffles” which has also long since been eradicated, as well as one where you could type “french military victories” and click I’m Feeling Lucky and it would return “Did you mean french military defeats?” Not so much a political issue as just one of google finally cleaning up some crap.
